This program provides basic instruction for our youngest racers,
ages 9 and 10. Exceptions to this age grouping are made for 7-8 year olds (those born in 1999 or
2000) who
have the experience and ability to participate in
J4-5 racing events. Decisions are made
by the coaching staff. If you feel that an exception should be made for your racer, please
contact the Club's
Program Director.
Skiers at the J5 level must demonstrate successful completion of a wedge turn in a coaches'
ski-off and must be self-sufficient with equipment and ski lifts. Training is available on
weekends. Training is also available on one weekday night for 9-10
year old J5s only.
Training: Every Saturday beginning at
Christmas Camp (December 27 - 30, 2006) through February
24, 2007. If a race
is scheduled on Saturday, the training day will be Sunday.
Optional
Tuesday night training with coaches is for 9-10
year old J5s
only.
Our coaches recommend that 7-8
year old J5's who want to ski on a
weekday night should free ski with
their parents. Ask members
of our coaching staff for ideas on
what you can work on.
Training Times:

J5 Racing: Junior 5's race within the Central New York Ski Council. There is no state
championship event for this level, although the post-season Kandahar
Open and Kandahar Invitational give them an opportunity
to compete against racers from around the state.
Racing Schedule:
J5 racers should refer to the
2008 J4-5 Council Race Information
and
2008 J3-4 State Schedule
pages of the NYSSRA Web site or the Central
Council Directory for race schedules. They should then confer with their
coaches to choose competitions that best meet their needs and requirements.
